We know how important it is for our general health and well-being to keep moving and be physically active. During the current COVID-19 lockdown, it’s more important than ever to add some exercise into our daily routine. It will help strengthen your immune system, so vital in fighting the COVID-19 virus, and make you feel better about yourself during this insane time. You don’t need a gym, expensive cardio equipment or a huge garden for an effective home workout during lockdown. There are many fun and creative ways to burn some calories at home. Here are 5 home workouts we’re doing during lockdown – the great thing with all these activities is that you can do them with your lockdown partner or kids as well.
FIND SOME ZEN WITH YOGA
Yoga is the perfect lockdown home workout. You don’t need any equipment or much space. It’s also a wonderful way to still the mind and help with feelings of anxiety so many are experiencing at the moment. You don’t need to be an expert either, yoga practice really is for everyone. Not sure where to start, then try kicking off the day with a peaceful “Sun Salutation”. It’s perfect for anyone, even if you have no experience with yoga. We show you how here.
If you’d like to add more yoga workouts to your daily routine there are loads of resources on online, and they are free!
Do Yoga With Me is my favourite site for free yoga workouts. It has tons of workouts that vary from beginner to advanced. I really like that it has tutorials on the correct way to do poses, as well as videos for meditation practices. There’s an incredible variety of instructors and yoga styles so you’ll be sure to find a workout and instructor that you like.

DO A JOE WICKS BODY COACH WORKOUT WITH THE KIDS
Doing a workout with the kids helps with 2 enormous challenges during lockdown. To keep moving, and more importantly, to keep the kids entertained. An added bonus is that you can exhaust them a little as well so you can hopefully enjoy your cocktail with a little peace and quiet.
Joe Wicks has become somewhat of a home workout sensation during the COVID-19 lockdown, providing free daily PE workouts designed to keep kids, and their parents, active. “Parents are going to be under pressure…and for 30 minutes a day I can take over and inspire and energise the kids to get active, bounce around and have fun. You can even join in with the kids… This is going to help millions of children and parents feel happier for 30 minutes and beyond every day.” His workouts are easy, fun and a welcome distraction for the kids!

JUST DANCE, DANCE, DANCE
There’s nothing simpler than putting on your favourite dance playlist, turning up the volume and shaking your booty! This home workout during lockdown will also help lift your spirits! Looking for some dance move inspiration? Then check out Shine Dance Studio online. They have a huge collection of fab easy to do routines to some of our favourite hits. It’s like doing a dance class – it’s so much fun! Check out this cool dance routine to Justine Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop That Feeling’. I was having so much fun with this, even the pups were joining in!
This is another great activity to do with the kids. In fact, the entire family can join in. You can even challenge your friends and family in lockdown to a virtual dance-off!
JOIN POPSUGAR FITNESS FOR A FREE VIRTUAL FITNESS CLASS
I love Popsugar Fitness. It’s my “go to” online resource when I’m looking for a home workout of ANY kind imaginable. The variety of workouts is unending with anything from a 5-minute arm-workout, to a 20, 30 or 45 minute bootcamp, Zumba, Yoga or dance workouts. Seriously – the offering is endless. You’ll be sure to find something fitting your workout needs and mood. Today, I did this crazy fabulous 45-minute full body toning workout. I’ve included it below so you can check it out and give it a go yourself.
“SPRING” CLEAN YOUR HOME
Doing housework is probably our least favourite activity – cleaning the kitchen and bathroom are hardly my idea of fun. But, when you’re stuck at home and trying to find ways to be active, cleaning offers a great fat-burning opportunity. And you’re also helping the fight against COVID-19 by keeping the surfaces in your home spotless. Some might even find cleaning our homes ‘mentally therapeutic’ right now.
As is the case with any workout, the more effort you put in, the greater the benefit. Stick on your favourite music and turn up the volume – it will help you polish and sweep that bit harder.
Polishing, dusting, mopping and sweeping are great for keeping your arms in shape. Bending and stretching, for example, when you make the bed, wash windows or do the laundry are good for thighs. Constantly running up and down the stairs as you keep things clean and tidy is a good aerobic workout.
Check out how many calories you can burn doing some vigorous cleaning and you might change your mind about your household chores!
