I’m in shock at how quickly spring has snuck up on me. I usually like to launch into spring having done a short diet “cleanse”. This basically takes the form of a 3-day diet reset which I think is always a good idea every couple of months or so. This typically means that I try to exclude extra sugar, dairy, caffeine, alcohol and other potential food allergens for a few days to clean up my diet and in this instance, reduce my post winter bloat.

I usually look to one of my favourite online lifestyle portals, GOOP for some inspiration. I’m already a fan of their annual post-Christmas cleanses, the most recent which I reviewed here earlier this year. This time, I’ve taken their 3-day anti-bloat reset. It’s not ridiculously restrictive but after only 3 days of following this plan, you will feel much better. This is a great way to kick-off healthier habits for spring. In fact I’ve extended it to 5 days. I can strongly recommend giving it a try.



All the recipes in this 3-day diet reset have links to the original recipe on the Goop website. Just click on the recipe name to go there. Where there’s a number next to a recipe name, I’ve included a substitution recommendation or recipe clarification in my notes below.

The recipes are all easy and really tasty, and are portioned to serve 2 people. I also try to drink loads of water and exercise daily throughout the reset.


Day 1

3-Day Diet Reset Day 1

On waking: Lemon (and ginger) water1

Breakfast: Morning Matcha Smoothie2

Lunch: Rocket Salad with Fennel Crusted Salmon and Avocado (Americans call rocket arugula)

Snack: Spirulina Popcorn (I left out the spirulina because of personal taste.)

Dinner: Ginger Turmeric Chicken and Squash Bowl3


Day 2

3-Day Diet Reset

On waking: Lemon water1

Breakfast: Morning Matcha Smoothie2

Lunch: Vietnamese Chicken Salad

Snack: Watermelon chunks with cayenne pepper and lime juice

Dinner: Butternut Squash Shrimp Taco


Day 3

3-Day Diet Reset

On waking: Lemon water1

Breakfast: Morning Matcha Smoothie2

Lunch: Lettuce Wrapped Turkey Burger with Basil Guac4

Snack: Spirulina Popcorn

Dinner: Detox Turkey Curry



1.Lemon water

I usually don’t start my day without this. I’m lucky that hubby knows how to make it perfectly for me each morning. I also like to add fresh ginger to my lemon water. I fill a small 1-cup tea infuser (like the one included in Shop The Post below) with freshly grated ginger. Allow it to steep in a cup of hot water for at least 5-minutes. Remove the tea infuser and add the juice of half a lemon and a slice of fresh lemon to the water. Enjoy.


2.Morning Matcha Smoothie

I ignored Tocos powder in the GOOP recipe which I couldn’t find locally.  The Tocos (tocotrienols) powder is a fat-soluble relative of Vitamin E that’s supposed to be hydrating to the skin and connective tissue. You can substitute this with some collagen powder instead. I’ve included a suggestion in the “Shop The Post” section below.

3.Ginger Turmeric Chicken and Squash bowl

Double the chicken you make for this recipe and use the leftovers in your chicken salad on day two. Use the bottom half of the squash (with the seeds) for this recipe, and save the skinny top half for your tacos on Day 2.


4.Lettuce wrapped turkey burger with basil guacamole

I substituted the turkey with skinless, boneless chicken thighs. You can also feel free to use low fat, high-protein ostrich fillet for a change in scenery. Make a double batch of your turkey (or chicken or ostrich) burger mixture. You’ll use it for the meatballs in the detox turkey (or chicken or ostrich) curry for dinner tonight.
