Busy working girls don’t always have the luxury to go home and take a shower after a long day at the office and before heading out. This is why we all need a traveling beauty kit we can use anywhere, to transform from stressed-out-office-mess, to cool-glamour-girl.
We put together a list of 10 beauty kit essentials to help your transformation and have you looking refreshed and ready to hit a cocktail party after a busy day.
Firstly, you need a gorgeous bag to hold all your beauty essentials. The Mimco trio of bags from Woolworths (see image below) is great because you can keep your essentials conveniently separate and its so gorgeous.
You need to start your routine by removing the remnants of your busy day. Natracare Organic Make-Up Removal wipes are effective and free of harsh chemicals like foaming agents, perfumes and parabens. As with all Natracare products, they are earth and animal-friendly and biodegradable. They’re also useful for a quick armpit refresh!
Perfect to prep your skin and make it feel ready to receive a fresh face of makeup. These pads remain one of our favourite beauty items. See our full review here.

Add sparkle to your look by getting rid of any redness caused by a day spent staring at a computer screen. The simple act of applying eye-drops is so refreshing.
For moisture between makeup we like using a light oil or serum and something under the eyes so that the makeup doesn’t set in any lines. Local natural skincare brand Kudu Cosmetica, has a product called Squalane which is perfect as it gives your skin some youthful dewiness. For the eyes, the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer is a firm Equilibrio favourite. Both are the perfect travel-size.

Micro mini beautyblender
These are perfect to rapidly apply flawless foundation without missing any nooks and crannies. (Make sure they’re clean though. We’ve provided guidance on cleaning brushes and the useful life of your beautyblender which you really should read.)
Makeup setting mist
A mist not only sets your makeup once you’ve reapplied it, but is also a great skin refresher. I love local skincare range Suki Suki Naturals’ Papaya Rose Hydrating Facial Mist. I found it at the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair held earlier this year but can’t seem to find it online anywhere. Keep an eye out for it and purchase some if you find it, it’s a wonderful product. However, until you do, Woolworths also has a really good setting spray which we love.
Dry shampoo is great for taming any oily build-up that may be lingering around your roots, resulting in flat, rather unflattering hair. I love the Davines Hair Refresher Dry Cleansing Mist and can’t recommend it more highly. It acts like an instant volumiser and has a wonderfully subtle fresh smell that doesn’t overpower and linger. Get your hands on the Davines products at these salons or contact Davines South Africa directly.
A red lip is the perfect finish to raise the glamour stakes of any look. Mich is loving the Woolworths Hydro Lipstick in Scarlet. Don’t forget matching liner, a “must have” for perfect, lasting red lips. Without it, your lipstick wears off too easily while you’re sipping your champagne. Don’t miss Mich’s lipstick tips in her post “How to avoid getting lipstick on your teeth.”
