New jeans trends! Are the skinny’s days numbered?

There’s been a huge shake-up in jeans trends lately. Like the roaring return of 90s TV series Twin Peaks, high-waisted “mom jeans”, the boot leg and embroidered denim is making a comeback. There is also an emphasis on the hem – frayed, slit, cropped or stepped. And lastly, a true 90s favourite, culottes and flares are back!

I’m not sure if I’m ready to totally discard my stretchy skinny jeans yet, but I’m delighted to revive my retired Levi 501s and bootlegs. They’re truly flattering and, worn with a killer heel, elongate the leg and balance the hips. Who knows, a little variety after years of elastane infused monotony could be exciting.

Here are a few of the best new trends.

Pair these cropped and flared jeans with some ankle boots to complete the look.

Embroidered jeans need to go with very simple accessories like a white T-shirt, a blazer and a cool pair of mules.

Flares and culottes look great with ankle booties, sneakers or strappy heels.

Jeans with interesting hems add a new dimension to casuals.  My personal favourite is the stepped hem.  It’s very easy to DIY this style by slashing a pair of bootleg jeans, keep the hem unstitched.

So let’s be brave and rest the skinny’s for a while.  Possible?  Not so sure.
