SA Fashion Week took place in Sandton, Joburg last week and we attended the women’s collections shows. Here are a few of the trends to look forward to for the Autumn/Winter 2019 season.

HEMLINES
Look out for interesting layers and hemlines next season. Following from their stunning current SS18 collection, MmusoMaxwell lead the way with uneven hems and intricate seams. Thebe Magugu also showed skirts with multiple flowy layers as did Rich Mnisi.

MONO
We saw tons of black and white on the runway. I loved Rubicon’s silky black garments, and Judith Atelier’s collection followed on from her intricate summer collection. Erre was super stylish as usual and Fikile Sokhulu showed beautiful ruffles.

AFRIQUE
African inspired prints and details featured in many collections. No Shade and Mantsho in particular celebrated our heritage.

BLUES
While red and yellow also featured strongly, by far the most prominent winter colour at SA Fashion Week was blue. Sober’s collection had classy checks blended with blue, burgundy and pink. The L’MAD Guillotine collection was crafted from linen and fine silks with original artworks.
