HOW TO MAINTAIN SOFT LIPS ALL WINTER

I love wearing lipstick. To me there is nothing more glamourous than a bold lip. But in order to pull off the look, your lips need to be in good condition. Although this sounds simple, it’s not always an easy feat, especially in winter when our lips tend to get dry and flaky. So, I’ve decided to share a few of my tricks on how to maintain smooth, soft lips all winter.

SOFT LIPS

EXFOLIATE YOUR LIPS

Little’s make-at-home scrub

I got this recipe at a Mother’s Day event at Little’s school last year. It’s so easy that even the youngest kids could make it. They used it as a “manicure scrub” but I quickly realised that it works well anywhere on my body, even my lips.

Little’s Scrub ingredients:
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of olive oil

Method:
Mix the sugar and oil together.
Smear a pinch or two of the mixture over your lips and very gently massage over your lips for about 30 seconds. The skin on your lips is very sensitive. Please don’t scrub too hard.

There’s no need to follow with a lip balm. The olive oil should moisturise your lips sufficiently.
There should be a bit of mixture left afterwards. I like using the leftover scrub on my hands to help keep the winter roughness at bay.

Watch 6-year-old Little make the scrub in 30 seconds. It’s that easy. You can make bigger quantities and use it all over your body.

Brush your lips

The other method I use to remove flakiness, is to move my toothbrush lightly over my lips to remove loose skin. A soft, dry facecloth will also do the trick.

You can use any kind of toothbrush – manual or electric. Just keep the pressure light.

Method:
Use the toothbrush, slightly damp, in light circular motions over your lips. If you’d like to plump your lips slightly, add a spot of toothpaste. The mint can help make your lips look temporarily fuller and pinker. Please don’t do this if you have sores on your lips. It will sting!
