Valentine’s Day makeup is generally easy – slick on some red lipstick and mascara, groom the brows, and you’re generally good to go! One can keep the hair looking “romantic” by adding some curls or waves. If you’d like a little inspiration perhaps check out the below video on how I created my look for our latest shoot.
We recently teamed up with Joburg-based fashion brand JMVB for a fun “Valentine’s shoot”. The two items chosen for the shoot were a red version of the super-popular JMVB Boiler Suit (I seriously wear mine twice a week) and a red, maxi version of their classic Kate Dress (both also available in black).

I generally love super quick and easy makeup, but for a photo shoot, one has to go to a little more trouble. This is clearly not “everyday make-up”, but perhaps nice for a dressy evening out.

Here is a list of products used in creating my Valentine’s day makeup look:
SKIN: I love the organic brand, Lula Fox’s Moisturising Foundation. It gives a dewy finish and keeps my dry skin feeling moisturized all day. I have serious dark circles under my eyes and use Wet ‘n Wild’s Coverall Concealer Palette to cover these. The pinkish colour is good for covering dark circles.
EYES: Pink eyeshadow is huge this season and the hues range from powerful, bright pink to soft, pretty pink. The eyeshadows I used in this Valentine’s Day makeup look are from the Holika Holika in Sparkling Rose pallet. I used a soft brown pencil liner by Dr Hauschka and for mascara, I used the Wet n Wild Lash o Matic Mascara and Fibre Kit (available at Clicks, but not currently online).
BROWS: I just started using these brow products and absolutely love them, especially for the season’s “feathered brow” trend. I used the Benefit Precisely, my brow pencil and the Benefit Gimme Brow + Volumizing Eyebrow Gel.
LIPS: The lipstick and liner I use in my Valentine’s Day makeup video I’ve had for ages, they are by Dolce & Gabbana in the colour “Devil”. A similar lipstick available locally would be the Zelens Extreme Velvet Lipstick in red, and the Lipstick Queen lipliner in fire red.
CHEEKS: I used the Benefit Babe on Board Bronzer, Blush and Highlighter set.
HAIR: I decided to give my hair a soft wave for the shoot. For this, I used an amazing “crimping” tool, the Bed Head Wave Artist II. I sprayed my waves with the Moroccan Oil Luminous Hair Spray Strong Flexible Hold.
